Jarvis & Marilyn get "Shanghaied"

Getting "Shanghaied" is a term I first heard last summer from my Uncle Steve. Apparently, ships getting ready to cross the Pacific would gather their crew by visiting San Francisco bars and picking up men who had passed out from drinking. The next day, they would not only wake up to an aweful hangover, they'd also find out that they were expected to work their way to Shanghai. And so the term came to be.

Thankfully, it didn't require that type of coercion to get Jason's parents to visit us here; although, we certainly worked them hard when they arrived. They explored the city with vigor and never complained once. They ran to catch public buses, squeezed onto the subways, endured the bitter cold wind, being stared at all the time, the constant sound of exploding fireworks celebrating the New Year and even a bit of snow.

We had a great time introducing them to our new home!!!
