Checking out our new town

Our new employer has been organized a couple great tours of our new city for us which really helped us get our feet under us in this very, very busy and sprawling city!

One of the more well known skyline images ... the Pearl Tower, seen while walking along the Huang Pu River with some of our new co-workers. An area known as The Bund is in view across the river.

We then headed for Yu Garden ... "real China" as one individual from the school described it. To say it was crowded would be in understatement ... I held onto my purse with one hand and Jason's hand with the other in order to keep from getting separated from either in the intense crush of people! It was a beautiful place with buildings originally built over 400-700 years ago and is home to the most famous dumpling shop in Shanghai.

Something we stumbled across after our lunch ...

At the Urban Planning Museum ... an incredible model of the city. Where we live is beyond what this model shows.

We were excited to find out that the World Expo will be in Shanghai beginning next Spring. This is the mascot - haibo (hi-bo) and he is absolutely everywhere!

Our day tour ended at the Shanghai IKEA ... Wow is all I can say. I have never been to an IKEA that crowded. Poor Jason was not too excited about his first-ever trip there :)

Our employer also took us on an amazing river boat cruise to see the many lights of Shanghai! (And the many tourists!)

Great pictures!!! That's one of the things that's really difficult to adjust to in Shanghai, there's SOOO many people everywhere. Restaurants, buses, etc get packed and people are ruthlessly rude! If you guys get a chance to visit the countryside, its much different :)
